The early days…

Originally established in the UK in 1996 as Magus International, Crimsonwing quickly recognised the benefits of having a near-shore development facility and started their Malta Solution Centre in 1998.

Based in the EU and just a few hours away from the UK, the Malta Solution Centre has proved a successful antidote to traditional off-shore barriers such as travel time, culture and language differences. It also gives Crimsonwing access to a highly skilled and stable workforce with lower overheads than mainland Europe. The Malta Solution Centre has over 180 staff and continues to grow.

In 2000 Magus International was renamed as Crimsonwing – after a bird found in Africa, which CEO David Walsh came across during his period of teaching in Kenya.

In 2004 Crimsonwing was awarded ISO 9001 certification, having implemented a thorough Quality Assurance Process that’s adopted across all departments, as part of the company’s commitment to exceptional quality. The same year, Crimsonwing was also appointed exclusive distributor for all Intershop products and services in the UK and Ireland and became a Microsoft Business Solutions Partner. Furthermore, Crimsonwing BV was established to serve clients in the Netherlands, increasing the company’s reach to mainland Europe.

In 2007 Crimsonwing achieved Microsoft Gold Partner status and later that year made two acquisitions. The first was the UK-based business unit of Peracto Ltd: a Microsoft Gold Partner as well as UK-exclusive reseller for Microsoft Dynamics PrintVis, giving us a leading portfolio of business solutions for the printing and publishing industry. The second acquisition was a controlling interest in the Promentum Group, a Dutch based provider of Microsoft Dynamics services and training to Microsoft and the Microsoft partner channel. 2007 ended with the creation of Crimsonwing plc, a Maltese registered company established in preparation for a public offering.

The following January 2008, Crimsonwing plc was listed on the Malta Stock Exchange. In June of that same year, the company acquired a second Dutch company – VDA – with a strong presence in the media and broadcasting sector in Holland, which added to Crimsonwing’s ERP and custom development portfolio.

After discovering the Magento Enterprise platform in 2009, which was only launched in April the same year, Crimsonwing instantly saw the potential of this great open-source platform. They signed on to become Magento Gold partners that summer and this partnership soon developed into a great success story for the Crimsonwing eBusiness team.

In the financial year 2012/13, Crimsonwing acquired the remaining shares of the Dutch Promentum Group and now fully owns this part of the business, consolidating operations and business units.

In 2015 Crimsonwing was acquired by KPMG, henceforth operating under the name of KPMG Crimsonwing. The acquisition has made KPMG Crimsonwing the largest ‘big four’ provider in Europe of Microsoft Dynamics consulting and implementation services.
