On Friday 5th May, we held an event titled ‘Reinventing ERP on the cloud’ at Microsoft Innovation Center in front of 32 people coming from different industries. Stephen Abela, Director at KPMG Crimsonwing Malta, opened the event with an update on our company, more specifically outlining how the changes Microsoft are under-going in their software offerings are affecting our product line-up.
In a few words, Microsoft are moving away from being a company focused solely on offering software as a product to becoming a company focused on offering software as a service. The latest offering under this new focus is Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) which combines ERP and CRM capabilities into a variety of applications that work together seamlessly. As was clearly explained by Stephen during his speech, introducing D365 to the local market was the purpose behind our event ‘Reinventing ERP on the cloud’.
Next, Kevin Schembri, Small to MidSized Solutions and Partners Manager at Microsoft Malta, picked up where Stephen left off and further explained Microsoft’s strategy and how this fits the purpose of the various companies present at our event.
Pascal Kreukniet, Senior Manager at KPMG Crimsonwing UK, took the stage next and delivered an excellent keynote speech about Microsoft Dynamics 365. He started his discussion by explaining that D365 is not just an app, rather it is an entire cloud-based technology ecosystem having end-to-end visibility on company processes (from financials to sales opportunities to human resources requirements),better business intelligence with the inclusion of Power BI and Cortana Intelligence and scalability in the cloud.
Afterwards, Pascal shared some insight on the ‘cloud’ – essentially that there are 3 main areas (Software as a Service or SaaS, Platform as a Service or PaaS and Infrastructure as a Service or IaaS), and explained 3 ways through which they can be delivered (Public, Private or Hybrid clouds).
A deeper focus on Trade and Logistics followed and it was during this discussion that the first of two demos were delivered. Omar Dimech, Senior Consultant at KPMG Crimsonwing Malta, led this discussion and he started by giving an overview of what D365 offers to companies involved in Trade and Logistics. This included the product configuration, procurement, sales/retail, logistics and master planning. The rest of Omar’s delivery focused on giving more detail of the aforementioned sub-topics.
The second demo was about Finance Management and Power BI. Fernando Pereira Founar, Senior Business Analyst at KPMG Crimsonwing, clearly explained the ease of use of Dynamics 365 for Operations and how it can help companies manage their financials. The information that can be extracted from such figures and data can help companies in making informed decisions, and adding Power BI to the equation will for sure allow companies to gain the competitive advantage they are looking for. This in summary was what Fernando explained and videos were shown to aid his delivery.
The event concluded with a networking lunch whereby attendees had the opportunity to connect with each other and with the organisers. Whilst thanking those who attended the event, we invite interested organisations to contact us so that we can further explain how Microsoft Dynamics 365 can help their specific organisation in improving its operations.
