2011 already has seen new trends in eCommerce gaining momentum, such as social commerce, video and mCommerce, as previously mentioned. The best thing I have seen so far is the way video and augmented reality are being used to demonstrate products. I have seen a great feature by French Connection, in which video is used in a very cool way. See for yourself!
However, recently something else caught my eye, which is augmented reality being used in shops.
The example I am going to show you is from Topshop in Russia, they have installed an augmented reality, virtual fitting room into the women’s section, which allows you to see what the clothes look like on you, without actually trying them on. I have been wanting to see this for a long time. It even lets the user turn around and see all angles. I think this is a really exciting piece of technology and an interesting way to see it implemented into a business.
Watch the video below to see it in action:
I think the real trends this year will see eCommerce continuing to grow, but also the way that products are demonstrated will be enhanced and be more innovative across the board.
