First Maltese speech synthesis app developed for Apple and Android devices!

Following up on the development of a Maltese Speech Synthesiser designed to provide additional support to Maltese speaking people, KPMG Crimsonwing is very proud to announce the launch of the free iSpeakMaltese App on the App store – the first of its kind for the Maltese language! The App is now also available on Android here.

This App, developed in-house by KPMG Crimsonwing, is a mobile extension of the Synthesiser. It allows users to enter short paragraphs of Maltese text into their iPhones, iPods, iPads, or any Android device and renders it into a vocal recording. These recording are then accessible in three different voices: a male, a female and a child. It has a bilingual interface (English and Maltese) and keeps a record of input text for easy re-use.

We are very proud with the Maltese Speech Synthesiser which is already making a significant difference to many Maltese speaking people around the world who need access to electronic media and the release of this app is only a first in a series of other apps in the pipeline” said Carmel Gafa, KPMG Crimsonwing’s Head of Technology.

The App was downloaded over 200 times on the first day of its soft launch only, and has now reached more than a 1000 users, making it the number 1 free App on Apple’s Appstore!

It is a great pleasure for KPMG Crimsonwing to be able to continuously contribute to the development of the Maltese language all around the world – and you could even help! If you would like to be a part of the project, get the App on the Appstore, join the iSpeakMaltese Facebook page and give us your feedback! An updated iOS version will soon be released, which will include some of the changes suggested by users.
