KPMG Crimsonwing CEO David Walsh awarded the Maltese National Order of Merit

On Republic Day each year, the President of Malta, on behalf of the Government and its people, pays public tribute to a number of outstanding personalities, who have distinguished themselves through the years. David Walsh, KPMG Crimsonwing’s CEO and one of Malta’s biggest advocates, was awarded the prestigious “Hon. Member, National Order of Merit”.

This year’s Investiture Ceremony took place at The Palace, Valletta, following the customary Ceremonial Parade in St George’s Square. The motto of the Order is “Virtute et Constantia”.

The Office of the Prime Minister stated that “David’s drive and commitment to Malta over the years have been truly remarkable”. David Walsh is the founder and CEO of the international IT solutions provider, which opened its operations in Malta in 1998. Since then, David Walsh has always had a close relationship to Malta and its people.

After a spell of teaching in East Africa, David Walsh embarked on his IT career with IBM in 1986 and managed some of IBM’s larges UK clients. In 1996, he founded KPMG Crimsonwing and transformed it from a concept to a publicly listed company, employing 230 people, in just over 10 years. The company opened its Solutions Centre in Malta in early 1998, which currently has a workforce of 160 employees. KPMG Crimsonwing is a significant ICT company in Malta, providing high value-added jobs in an industry that is key to the island’s economy. The Prime Minister’s Office also commented that David Walsh has always been “assisting wherever possible to encourage clients to invest in Malta and to support the promotion of Malta as an excellent country to invest and build profitable long-standing relationships”.

Generally, only Maltese citizens are eligible to be appointed members of the Order. However, honorary membership may be conferred on foreign nationals who have distinguished themselves by their service in the promotion and fostering of international relations, or who have earned the respect and gratitude of the people of the Maltese Islands. During the Ceremony, one companion, one officer, two honorary members and five members were appointed to The National Order of Merit and eight individuals were awarded the Midalja ghall-Qadi tar-Repubblika.
