At KPMG Crimsonwing, one of Magento’s leading partners in Europe, we are encouraging all our developers to step up to the mark and take the exam to pass the Magento Certification. We think it is important that through a continuous process we get as many of our staff certified as possible to reflect our competencies as well as our team’s passion for Magento. One of our senior Magento developers, Daniel Higgins, was a member of the Magento Certification Advisory Board, which was instrumental to creating this high-profile test. Selected for his expertise in Magento development, he was part of the board alongside a global network of leading members of the Magento Community. Of course, the final exam questions were drafted in-house by Magento themselves.
Daniel explained that the purpose of the board was to “establish the criteria necessary to demonstrate expertise in Magento implementations, as well as define the job skills that the certification examination would validate”. In order to benchmark a high standard for any Magento Certificate Developer, the board assessed each criterion within the below looking at its impact on creating quality Magento applications:
- Magento Development Certification 2011
- Magento Certification Job Profiles
- “Developer” versus “Developer Plus” skills
- “Developer” Blueprint Survey
- “Developer Plus” Blueprint Survey
On the other end of the spectrum, our colleague Jonathan Abela, Magento Developer at KPMG Crimsonwing, has already successfully passed the Magento Developer Plus Certification and explains that taking the test was not only “a good opportunity to increase [his] skills and knowledge of Magento, and thus improving the quality of the work produced”, but also represented “a solid proof of [his] skills, helping [his] career as a developer”. Passing the exam is testament that not only do the developers have some extended knowledge in development, but also that they have a deep understanding of the important basic concepts about the platform and what actually goes on ‘under the hood’. In order to prepare for the exam, Jonathan chose to start his preparation early and included:
- Watching all the “Fundamentals of Magento Development” videos,
- Working all the examples in the videos,
- Going through the Certification Study Guide and answering the questions
- Delving into the Magento code base to understand low level concepts and working,
- Going through all the material covered and studying some concepts, class names and method names.
In Malta, KPMG Crimsonwing is a private Prometric testing centre, which mean that we can hosts Magento Developers Certification Exams for our employees. A bunch of our colleagues are preparing for the tests right now and we’re encouraging all our Magento developers to take the exam rather sooner than later.
