MCAST graduates working on high-profile projects at KPMG Crimsonwing

Over the years, KPMG Crimsonwing took on many alumni from MCAST and we are very pleased with their work. As they have shown to be an integral part of our teams, they get to work on many high-profile projects.

KPMG Crimsonwing is the largest publicly listed IT company in Malta. Providing IT solutions mainly based around ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning systems), eCommerce and custom development, the organisation delivers award-winning projects to companies across Europe. Since its foundation in 1996, KPMG Crimsonwing recruits many students from educational institutes. Needless to say, MCAST (Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology) is one such institute and many former students have forged a career with KPMG Crimsonwing.

All KPMG Crimsonwing projects are delivered in teams and talented university graduates are always welcome. KPMG Crimsonwing offers a large variety of project opportunities for MCAST alumni due to their large client base. The experience gained by these alumni has a wide spectrum. One of the most varied and exciting opportunities involves three alumni who are currently working in the Netherlands, sub-contracted to the world’s leading provider of portable navigation solutions and digital maps.

Prior to that, all three of them worked on projects based upon Intershop’s Enfinity Suite technology. This Java-based product is used for the creation of large eCommerce websites. Some graduates proved themselves as an integral part of the team creating the website for the UK’s largest office supplies company. This project provided an online shop window not only for the client, but also for the dealers retailing their products. Similar projects have been conducted for a global business process outsourcing company based in the UK, and the largest book retailer in the Netherlands.

KPMG Crimsonwing has recently adopted Magento, the world’s fastest growing eCommerce platform. An MCAST graduate formed part of the original team investigating the fitness of the product and another graduate was a valuable member of the team delivering the first Magento-based web shop for the UK’s leading supplier for industrial flooring and building maintenance.

Other projects involving MCAST alumni were:

  • A project for the UK based leader in enhancing safety of life and property. Their staff will all be using the Time & Expenses system on a global scale.
  • A project based around a critical system through which ships around the world are able to keep their maintenance up to standard and keep the umbrella company updated at the same time.
  • A project for one of the largest independent companies trading commodities with offices in 44 different countries. The KPMG Crimsonwing team is now even considered an extension of the client’s own IT team.
  • Bespoke projects: usually entail the customisation of ERP systems based on Microsoft’s DynamicsTM platform, implemented for e.g. a UK-based group specialising in passenger transport, travel and logistics; a British IT services company; a Welsh jewellery company; and the world’s largest listed retail property group operating shopping centres around the globe.

For all of these projects, graduates have acquired new technologies and methodologies in order to be productive members of the respective teams. Not all the projects have been for foreign customers. One graduate, who worked on some high-profile projects before, is now engaged with a new project to synthesise Maltese speech, which is a great challenged and funded by the EU. And not to forget, the MCAST website itself was developed by KPMG Crimsonwing as well and it only made sense that alumni have handled support and maintenance tasks required for the site.
