A group of 18 IT students from St Francis Secondary School, who will be sitting for their O-levels next May, visited the KPMG Crimsonwing Malta offices recently in a bid to get a better picture of the opportunities and careers which exist in the sector.
KPMG Crimsonwing Malta Operations Director Pierre Zammit started the students’ visit by giving them a brief presentation to explain the structure at KPMG Crimsonwing. He also went into the company’s operations in Malta, the UK and the Netherlands.
He gave a brief overview of the company’s three main sectors; eCommerce, Microsoft Dynamics and Research and Development. Should they continue in the IT path, Mr Zammit assured the students that there are various openings in the sector for those who are truly dedicated.
A representative from each of the three sectors also gave the students a short talk focusing on their area, giving them the opportunity to ask any questions they may have. The students ended their visit with a tour of the offices.
The students appreciated the opportunity to get a real glimpse into what working in IT is really like and to get the story first hand, from those working in the area. They also enjoyed putting any questions they had to the different staff members.
“It has always been our pleasure to host University student visits, and in recent years we have started to extend this to secondary IT students too. Hopefully this exposure will serve to give them a better understanding of what a career in commercial software development entails, as well as to learn about the various specialist areas that are constantly evolving in the IT industry,” Mr Zammit concludes.
