The client is a financial institution based in Finland, providing micro-loans to the public. To support the steady growth of their business, they entrusted KPMG Crimsonwing with the complex Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009. The system has been implemented by KPMG Crimsonwing’s team of Dynamics AX certified experts, and took roughly one year, from presales to the final go-live of the solution in January 2012. The group is now gradually rolling out all their other group companies on Microsoft Dynamics AX.
The purpose of this project was to introduce an ERP system to the financial institute, as previously all of the accounting was outsourced to 3rd party accounting firms. The objective of this project was to shift all the group’s companies to Microsoft Dynamics AX, with the goal of having all the company’s financial information in one centralised system, for total business visibility and control.
The financial institute provides micro-loans and related products online and through mobile devices. In 2005, they were the first group to launch the mobile micro-loan product in Europe. Having started out from Finland, they are now present in 19 countries and have about 30 companies within their group. They have served over 1,000,000 customers since their launch.
Background and Requirements
After a thorough review process, the financial institute chose KPMG Crimsonwing as their implementation and development partner for this ERP project, as the group recognised KPMG Crimsonwing’s success in implementing mission-critical ERP systems within the financial sector. With years of experience, including in ERP implementations in other financial institutions, KPMG Crimsonwing brought the needed product and industry knowledge, as well as a highly skilled and dedicated team to the project.
Tuomas Asunmaa, the group’s Project Manager said “We needed a partner that is agile and flexible to our needs during the process, to apply for a Banking license from the Malta Financial Services Authority. KPMG Crimsonwing have proved that they were the right partner. They have satisfied all our requirements and their recommended solution – Microsoft Dynamics AX – was indisputably the correct choice too. We look forward to continue developing AX into the next level.”
Following the requirements analysis for the project and careful evaluation, the client selected Microsoft Dynamics AX as their ERP product of choice. Microsoft Dynamics AX is a complete ERP solution for enterprises – an integrated, adaptable business management solution that helps companies and their people make decisions with greater confidence.
Microsoft Dynamics AX can help the group outpace its competition with an easy-to-use solution that works like and with familiar Microsoft software like Microsoft Office, hence, keeping change to a minimum.
Stephen Abela, Head of Dynamics at KPMG Crimsonwing Malta said “We are extremely excited that they are now reaping the benefits of our joint project efforts. The software has been tested and is operational at the new Bank in Malta following the issue of the Banking license from MFSA. We look forward to continue supporting them with Dynamics AX as they expand more internationally.”
Over the course of this ongoing project, the financial institute, together with KPMG Crimsonwing, has managed to create a solid basis for their group of companies going forward, enabling them to gain control of their book-keeping, as well as creating a central point of access across the whole group for their collective finances. This has given the them a great level of visibility over their business, allowing them to evaluate their overall business performance on a whole new level.
Additionaly, they have realised the potential of Malta as a near-shore business location and have successfully obtained a banking license for Malta regulated by the MFSA, which is why the group was looking for a local Maltese IT partner.
