The project

Back in 2003, KPMG Crimsonwing was commissioned to implement an easy-to-manage Microsoft Dynamics NAV platform, an Enterprise Resource Planning System which would support the publisher’s business operations.

Client information

The client company was founded in 1964 and was a Dutch publishing company with products including European consumer magazines, Dutch regional newspapers, business publications in the European and North American markets, and educational publications. The publisher sold its business publications division in 2006 to a venture capital group, which then sold the UK division to an award-winning international B2B and events business.

Background and Requirements

Because it lacked standardised reporting processes, the global media company found collating reports from its European companies to be a time-consuming, manual process. Its European operations relied on Oracle Financials to create reports, which was both expensive to support and difficult to integrate with Hyperion – the business intelligence solution used by the publisher’s New York headquarters.

The solution

KPMG Crimsonwing found that the disparate network invited data inaccuracies and errors. To meet the company’s needs across Europe, KPMG Crimsonwing recommended an easy-to-manage Microsoft Dynamics NAV system, complemented with a scalable SQL Server infrastructure and a Citrix network.

Business benefits

The benefits following the implementation have been substantial, with clear access to information for all employees and additional advantages for IT staff, who have found the solution to be far more cost-effective and easy to support – in particular when considering upgrades and up-scaling for new employees. Mike Donlan, the publisher’s European Project Manager said: “The cost of ownership with Oracle, particularly around IT support, counted against it.
